Places

The next place I would want to write about is Candies!!
Candies was like “The Place” during college days, it still is actually. My college years would have been incomplete without candies.
Every time I hear the word Candies or even think about candies, the first thing that comes to my mind is, the good old days with my rock star friends.

Candies is a restaurant located in Bandra. It is in three different areas, being reclamation, Union Park and Pali Hill. Initially I started going to the reclamation candies. It is a small place but the ambience there is amazing. It gives a complete Christmas like feel.  It is a really nice and a cozy place. A very close friend with his girlfriend took me to this candies for the first time.
More Importantly,  I would like to talk about, the Candies at “Pali Hill”. (Even when I think about that place, it gives me a very,”Oh my God” type feel.)  Apparently, I have heard that the owner’s bungalow was turned around to make this Candies, hence it has 4 or 5 different levels.
The place is huge and trust me, it’s so huge that there never will be a jam packed day at this candies. The ground floor is air-conditioned and different levels on the top are enormous, at every corner there is a table and a chair the, whole place is covered with plants and the walls are painted white with colorful tiles on them. The food there is great, they have lots of variety, it’s for the vegetarians and the non vegetarians, a few things on the menu are paneerkathi roll, veg roll, salad, cold coffee, blueberry cheese cake, dragon chicken, lasagna, cheese balls, biryani and thai curry etc.
About my memory in this place, “Some of my closest friends in college, live in suburbs i.e. (Bandra and Andheri) and I reside in South Bombay. Whenever we bunked class, which was the case often, I was literally kidnapped each day from Church gate (where my college was) to Bandra and taken to candies. We used to sit there for hours together, eating and chatting away to glory. As far I remember, we usually had a fix order that consists of, salad for Rishab, dragon chicken for Anu and Mushroom & Pepper steak form Sameer.
From college gossip, to our future!!From our individual girlfriends and boyfriends to the weather, we used to discuss it all….

Even today, Every time I go back to Bombay, the only place I crave for is Candies.
You really have to pay a visit to candies to actually see why I am going so mad talking about this place.
Caution: Please don’t faint when you see the place.

Places

So let the Journey begin!!
I will start by talking about a few places that I just love in Mumbai .

One such place is “Prithvi Café”.Something you really can’t miss.
It is an open air café in Juhu, this café is a part of the famous Prithvi Theatre.
Prithvi café is an ideal place to go relax and forget about all your worries.

The ambience of Prithvi café is something worth talking about, the dimly lit paper lanterns, sofa seats placed under the trees, and not to forget the old bearded uncle who plays the most amazing flute I have ever heard, all add a completely different charisma to the place.

The food available in the café is a unique combination of items from many popular places in Mumbai . It consists of Vada Pav from a popular vendor outside Mithibai College, Samosa from Gurukripa in Juhu, Bun Maska from Irani cafés, coco delights from Mocha, Khari biscuit and more from American Bakery etc. The best things on the menu according to me are the spicy Egg burji, different types of Tea and the variety of chaats available.

Serious conversations or light hearted talks.
Silently sitting and gazing at people or just getting lost in your thoughts is something that you can look forward to, at Prithvi café.

The café looks the best during the evening time and one person who I have always spotted at the café is “Makrand Deshpande”. He is like always there, that way you do get to see many other theatre personalities also there.

Since the blog is also about my memories. My closest memory attached to Prithvi café is about a day, when I wasn’t in too great a mood. I just went there, ordered for some nice hot chai and started writing about every single thing I felt at that point of time. The ambience was so soothing that time passed by. I was totally rejuvenated when I walked out of the place. (See, you don’t always need people to make you feel better. Sometimes it’s just the place that can do good to you.)

Other than this, during college days, we had our “Quantative technique” subject tuitions held at some place near the cafe. After class, we just used to run to the café and hog like we haven’t eaten in days and have the most amazing conversations ever while eating. So yes, those were the days.

Please do visit Prithvi café when you’re in Mumbai. I am sure you’ll feel as good as I do, even when I just think about it.
And for all the people who stay in Mumbai and still haven’t gone there, Guys what are you waiting for???????

Cheers,
Sheetal
